FACILITY DESCRIPTION

The SM18 Test Facility is a versatile and comprehensive testing installation for superconducting magnets. It supports a wide range of activities—from R&D to series production, qualification for accelerator deployment, and feedback-based design improvement.

FACILITY TESTING CAPABILITIES

  • Small magnets using High-Temperature Superconductors (HTS)
  • Large magnets requiring 1.9 K vertical testing
  • Magnets with Supercritical Helium feeding
  • Broad range of powering capacities and protection systems

    • Confogurations
      • 9 horizontal test benches with powering capacity up to 20 kA and several 2 kA system equipped with magnet protection suystems including CLIQ; cooling possibility to 4.2 and 1. 9 K
      • 5 vertical cryostats with powering acapities up to 20 kA , and sevarl options of combined powering with 15 kA and 2 kA; energy extraction systems and magnet protection with conventional quench hetar power supplys and CLIQ systems ; cooling possibilities with He gas at variable temperatures , 4.2 and 1.9 K
